2022 Pig Snout Annuary

Latest Comments

Another historic, groundbreaking Pig Snout gathering has been added to the annals of Adirondack lore. We met again at the Cedar River Camp on Thursday September 8, 2022 for the 32nd annual event. Some stragglers with work obligations (?) joined us on Friday. Attending this year in no particular order were snoutin veterans Rick, John, Mike, Gerard, Pat and Dan. New members (part of Pig Snout 2.0) Matt and Gus rounded out the group of frontiersmen braving the wilderness for a challenging adventure.

As usual the food was a high point of the weekend. Mike’s plethora of snacks including several gourmet cheeses and crackers satisfying the munchies between such epicurean delights as pancake breakfasts by John M, sumptuous lunches provided by his honor the judge, a stupendous salad by Dan, Pat’s legendary clam chowder and for the 32nd time Aunt Margie’s classic Spaghetti with sausage and meatballs. Additional confections were delivered by Matt and Gus.

Being the physical specimens that all Snouters embody the list of activities tested even the sturdiest of participants. A climb up Blue Mountain that, while just short of the summit, was higher than any geriatric ladies or women carrying small children could attain. Kayaking on Adirondack Lake proved to be quite enjoyable with a shore lunch that unfortunately lacked any fresh caught fish. Others enjoyed the challenge of mountainside disk golf. Back to the subject of fish, newcomer Matt has probably caught the largest Brookie that has ever been seen at Pig Snout.

At the annual meeting of Pig Snout a motion made by Uncle Ray was presented. He requested a rule change that a person who has won two consecutive tastings shall be disqualified from the next tasting. After some discussion the motion was moved to a vote and was defeated. It was also determined that Pig Snout 33 will return to the Cedar River Camp.

And now the results of this year’s tasting. The beverage as determined by last year’s winner Dan was IPA. Eight worthy (?) candidates were evaluated under the watchful eyes of our “judges” Gerard and Pat. The tabulation sheet includes a note “skunk piss Rick”. I believe this might have been a reference to an inadvertent comment made by yours truly regarding one of the entries. Again this year a tie vote required an additional round with relabeled cups to determine the eventual winner submitted by Pat. Lazy Daze IPA from the Backyard Brewery and Kitchen, located in Manchester, NH has been described by others as “Fresh citrus, mango, and pineapple flavors burst out of the glass well before you put this beer to your lips. Flaked wheat and oats give this beer a full bodied mouthfeel and the typical ‘hazy’ effect. Lazy Daze is double dry hopped with 6 different hops and hop powders at different points of conditioning. New England IPA, hazy IPA, juice-bomb- call it what you want. We’re just calling it delicious.” As the winner of this year’s tasting Pat has determined that the 2023 tasting for Pig Snout 33, September 7, 8, 9, 10, 2023 will be Wheat Beer and there will be a second tasting featuring cheddar cheese. These are both new subjects for a Pig Snout tasting so I would recommend early research to secure strong contenders for these awards.

Well here I am again at the bottom of the page with just enough room to express mine and Louise’s wishes to you and your family for the Merriest of Christmases and the Happiest of New Years
