We’ve done it again; another Pig Snout Adventure is in the old memory bank. Our trip this year to the Floodwood Pond Wilderness area was injury-free and had no negative stories to share, not that I ever would. Unfortunately, Ted and Patrick were unable to attend. They were missed, but a good time was had by all in attendance. The cooking chores fell to less-experienced apprentice chefs who had studied under Patrick for some time. Aunt Marguerite prepared meals for both evenings, and we are all most grateful.
I have to say again that Gerard’s camper made life much more pleasant, especially for the senior members of our group. Did you realize I am older than Uncle Jim was on our first trip? Scary hunh? The fishing was excellent this year for all except the out-of-stater, who had an opportunity to explore the pond via kayak. I should note that in New York State, we frown on harassing wildlife, especially loons. Enough said. We were all pleased with the weather but have determined that an earlier date might be more prudent in 2008. With that in mind, September 5, 6, and 7, 2008 will be our weekend.
This year’s tasting for a domestic ale was won by Sam Adams Brown Ale from Boston, MA. Second was Endurance of Ipswich, MA; a tie for third included Sierra Nevada of Chico, CA and Wailing Wench (Best Label Award) of Syracuse, NY. Saranac of Utica, NY, and Fat Angel of Burlington, VT, were also-rans. The tasting for 2008 will be White Wines of New York and New Jersey.
Gerard did a great job of finding our location, and I hope we can do as well in 2008. John and I have committed to try to come up with something different in 2008, but I would hope that Gerard will continue to scout, as his recommendations have been excellent.
Assignments for 2008 can remain the same, Gerard-Bait & Tackle, Ray-Friday and Saturday Lunch, Pat-Friday Dinner, John-Saturday and Sunday Breakfast, Jim-Saturday Dinner, Ted-Munchies and I’ll bring the beverages. On that note I promise to do a better job than I did in 2007.
Lets all keep Uncle Ray in our thoughts as he recovers from his recent plumbing work. Well that’s it for now. Have a most joyous Christmas Season and start planning for Pig Snout 2008.
